A3 sketchbook

Friday 18th May 2012

To be completed for the Monday 20th May 2012, I set myself a few more things to do aswell as the ones I set on the thursday. As when I was sorting through my books I found more things to do;
-Wallpaper pictures for my ideas before I had my pitch.
-Photo's of August Macke's work.
-ANNOTATE MY BOOKS!

I have listed a few rough ideas to do for my Final Piece which I have started but know just need to clarify what I'm going to do.
-Customise a hoodie personalised to me.
-Personalise backdrops to run over the back of my exhibiton board.
-Do all my work backwards, so the viewers have to look in to a mirror to be able to read the writing in my work the right way round. For example when you look in your centre mirror when driving at an ambulance you can read it.
-personalised dress.
-set of three canvas's about my identity all about me.

Thursday 17th May 2012

I would like to achieve for Monday 21st May 2012
-pictures scanned to the computer
-notes from my diary and my leavers book scanned in to my computer
-as much artist research put in to my book which is ready to put in to my book
this is all to go towards my Final Piece.

Wednesday 16th May 2012

I have set myself some work to achieve for today,
-Stitch in to my samples
-Learn some new techniques shown by Danielle.

I Achieved the above also learnt how to do mono printing. Also when printing off my photographs, I had the idea of scanning in photo's to the computer of when I was younger, to use in my work.

I have began using techniques on the sawing machine in use when making my final piece. I started by test writing on my samples with the sawing machine, which came out really well but not as neat as I planned, but with more practise and confidence on the machine it would improve. They were really successful I improvised on some more samples to make them more interesting. There are some photos of my samples below.

Tuesday 15th May 2012

I have done some more samples with a different screen print, some photos of my prints will be shown below. I am now going to work in to some of the samples and maybe use good, well printed ones towards my final piece. Our textiles group also had a group talk about what we need for a basic pass so we are covering everything, then when I have covered the basics I can develop my work future to a higher grade. As there isn't any point moving on if everything isn't covered. I wrote some feedback mentioned in our discussion.

Criteria for success
-Artists in my proposal and evidence in my book
-Research       -combined everything so it all links in together.
-Annotation     -reason behind you work
                       -what you like about it?
                       -developing solutions why you have done, what you have done?
                       -solve solutions and problems do lots of research
-Always refer back to my proposal
-Refer to proposal  - what I intend
                              -what work I'd like to do or have done?
-Mix media to cover a wide range of techniques.
-Practical methods and skills
                         -look at developing my work and what ideas I can do for my FMP.
                         -do lots of rough ideas
                         -adapt ideas all the time
                         -scale experiment future.
                         -still on track
                         -Analise what I've got and what to do for FMP
                         - PLAN
-We have reviewed what a pass is and how I am going to develop to get my FMP!
- On going at all times
                         -Annotation
                         -Blog
                         -Journal
                         - Sketchbook

Friday 11th May 2012

Complete for Monday 14th May 2012
I set my self a task to research a good hand full of artists, to get some inspiration and ideas to use in my development of my FMP:
-So I have researched a range of photography artists, who has use memory in their work. I have listed them then i will show proof of my research in my sketch book. Refer to my research page to see my photography research and several other;
-Also a variety of Painters who use memory in their work, to portray a vision or a story for a viewer;
-Then last of all I have looked at textile artists which I have found link in to my work, and have given me many ideas. To refer back to in my sketchbook when needed, to remember their work or for more inspiration and ideas. Also to show the evidence that I have explored a variety of artists, in all aspects of my work.

Wednesday 9th May 2012

     I have just had a little discussion about my work form Jo Conlon for different feedback, for a wide range of feedback instead of a one persons interpretation all the time. She had a look my sketch book work and my sample and were I'm starting to go with my work, my feedback was to;
-To collect lots of objects or photographs from memories which have happened my life
-To have many more artists research evidence in my sketch book as well as my journal
-Artists research consisting of which techniques they have used and how I would or have used the ideas or technique in my work. I was just browsing the Internet and I found some artists work which I liked on this website www.artistdaily.com.

Tuesday 8th May 2012

      I have had a very good productive day, i worked with screen printing with a photo of me at college. I wasn't too sure about the techniques, it didn't exciting enough, so to use the same technique but in a different way i started using a plain screen and placing it on top of a layer of material then a layer of lace for the pattern then printed it. After that I have printed myself over the took so it wasn't just plain material. I then experimented and tried mono printed by writing words on to the material, but the way the mono print works is that the writing shows up backwards. But instead of seeing that as a bad thing I thought  it was great it was something different and unique to my work.
    I really liked the process and the outcomes so far, so to get more ideas and inspiration I looked in magazines of artists which work with material, which then go on to making garments and clothing to represent them selves.
So the artist I found in magazines are;
-Reem Alasadi
        www.reemalasadi.com
-Paddy Hartley
        www.paddyhartley.com
-Alison Willoughby
        www.alisonwilloughby.com
-Junky Styling
        www. junkystyling.co.uk
these artists do a similar technique in their work and its all to do with themselves, I would like a final outcome similar to that but my own unique twist on to it.

The ideas I got from looking at these artists are as follows;
- Customising a piece of clothing for example a hoodie (which i wear alot) and develop it so its all about me and my memories.
- Make a large piece of samples of my memories, then develop it in to a garment, for example a dress
-A make a very detailed and memorable runner to hang down the back of my exhibition board. So it looks  very similar to wallpaper but its fabric.
- Have call my piece of work in a room the wrong way round then as you look in a mirror it all looks right, so the viewer has to stop and think about my work so it draws people in just like, if you look at an ambulance van the writing is the wrong way to hen your driving and you look in a mirror its the right way round because of the reflection.
Here are some photographs of the samples I have been experimenting with all day.

                                                                                    This sample was my testing new media's out on, I used some circle meshing and ink over it to get the circular effect in the background with a plain screen. Then used the photo of myself and printed it over the top. I was then trying out mono printing by writing on the fabric. But i found out as i took it off the ink, that were I had touch the material with my hands or fingers it showed up so it dint work very well. But now on my next ones I new that so I didn't make the same mistake.

This was my next sample I inked over a Croatia material to get the pattern on the plain material, again print using a plain screen. I think this one came out really well, its got very pastel colours which I really like that type of pallet. So I wrote on it, how I would describe myself in a few words. But by using the mono printing it printed backwards, but that is me. A very backwards and unique person so I have written on it 'one of a kind' with a love heart and two kisses at the end.

With these prints I was testing out layering the same picture on top of each other but as a positive and a negative so you get a whole photo but in two parts. These three similar prints are all on a runner (one long piece of material). I really like the three print which look very different, but processed in the same.

I started to apply paint to the prints so that when i wrote on them the writing would show up better as its on patterned material too. I wasn't so keen as the colours of the prints didn't go with the patterned material and then the paint made the print dull and grey, which is me on a glum day but not generally as a person. Also horse riding is my hobby so I enjoy it greatly.

Using this lace or Croatia  to produce a pattern on the plain material it also turned the Croatia the same colour, I found that it made the Croatia more appealing so it wasn't a mistake I saw as an plus.
Then I put my own stamp on to the pink patterned material, by putting a picture of myself on it.
With this sample i used the Croatia and put a screen print of myself on it, then wrote on the opposite side people who I love a lot in my family, thinking they would show through. But wrote on the same side of the prints family and live so I would have a main family showing then lots of little words of everybody in my family. But It didn't work as well as I thought it would. So next time I could try it on a different material.

I wrote all the horses name on pattern material then wrote on backwards 'Love u all' which then came out the right way. But the whole is very messy and could have more techniques done to it now to make it more interesting.
These two samples were both just to get a feel of the screen printing, and different ways I can layer or print them.

This was experimenting with the mono printing a piece of left over material, to get use to the technique, I used a darning needle to do the writing which worked really well, and i didn't need to lean on the material or hold it with my fingers.
this was screen printing over croatia to get the pattern but already printing it on to pattern material which took to the ink really well, which I really like how its how the layer of one pattern then underneath the pattern of the material, and have worked really well together.
This is a photo of the material above.

Wednesday 2nd May 2012

    As my screen prints didn't really come out very clear as on some of the prints on brown paper i put too much ink on to it came out blotchy and as there was too much ink it just ran so it was a bubbly block of ink with out a picture. But on material it needed more ink applied as the material soaks up the ink, so i used them both and applied them together to make them both more interesting by putting them together as one. As there was too images on my screen print I had to cover one up or i print both, I maskin taped paper to the other image but when i took the paper off it had a very colourful and detailed print, so the print which i wasn't printing didn't come out very well but the only one which was an accident come out really well. with some fabric painting and some experimenting Astarte i made a very appealing meaning piece of work in my work, which came out really well.

Tuesday 1st May 2012

    I had a go at screen printing, some of the prints came out really well but some didn't work very well. Overall I didn't enjoy or think screen printing is my thing as it turns in to black and white or Positive and negative areas, but I love colour in a photo the natural picture, so it defeated the object. Had a tutorial with Danielle, we discussed that if there is a piece of work which I'm not too keen on, I need to improve it and improvise into it. Alot of work but minimum effort isn't as good as a good amount but a lot of effort put in to it. So after today I'm going to go away and reflect on my tutorial and keep it in mind to make my FMP to the best of my ability and do more to achieve that.

- Maybe recording or a video

Wednesday 25th April 2012

      I had a good go at and learn't how to transfer a print out of an image to fabric or some material. I had to leave it over night to get the best results, so the PVA glue dries fully clear and hard. From the tutorial on the 24th April, I had a list of things to do and explore. So part of the feedback was to arrange my book so its not all over the place. Also to make my annotation better and more appealing to the viewers, and me to make me want to do things better and more of it. Then i need to start doijg more experimantation and to a variety of sizes.

Tuesday 24th April 2012

    I had a little tutuorial with Danielle, to reflect on which part of my book I need to improve. Then I discusted how I can now move my work forward to make it more interesting to me and the viewer.
    I made a simple plan in my book of the next few weeks, to record when I have deadlines. The tutorial ws very useful as it has helped me greatly to move forward also she showed our textiles group a few new textile tecniques we can interpuret in to our work.
    All the feedback from my tutorial, and things I need to do in my book to improve it.
Tutorial
To do:
-Look at photographers
-Speak to Steve the tecnician for advise on photographers
-Collage
- Text ways which represent me
- Develop images:
     -Stitch                -Collage              -Tearing
     -Bleech              -Paint                   -Material
-Ask Richard on help about self portrait artist which may help or inspire me.
-Bring everything in together sum things up to come to the conclusion for my FMP.

Here is a little list of things I'd like to do and ideas which I had, which I may bring in to work at a later stage.
Would like to do;
-Set of three canvas's of memories
-Etching and/or lino printing
-Printing on fabric and then work in to it the photo.
-Fabric inks
-Then conclude and combined everything
Idea
- Photo collage of certain Memories
    -Leaving school scrapbook and photos
    -My 18th
    -My hoiilday abroad with my friend (Laura)
    -Duke of Edinburgh

 The photo below is a photocopy of the original to make it black and white only. Then I got Danielle to transfer the image on to assotate, for me to use on a over head projector. When I had the assotate on the overhead projector it distorted the photo a really good effect.  So I put somesort of medium on the paper and start painting, tearing, inking, bleeching exploring several types of media. To form the photo on to a large scale, and work into it with a variety of textile tecniques. I tried it on wallpaper, tissue paper and sugar paper. Now I'm going to work with tecniques to experiment and find out which ones look best and soot my subject matter. I really enjoyed the process and would like to include it in too my work.

Some of the enlargements I did from the acetate from my other photo of my self were really good here are some photos of them.
This was my one on a wallpaper it gave the best results as the wallpaper soaked up the ink i used and win you it has really good texture.

Monday 23rd April 2012

     I worked in my A4 sketch book to get ideas and a variety of media's i can use. I found a website with lots of different artists and their work which I like;      www.art.co.uk
    Jamie came and gave a little talk- Moderation 29th June.

Wednesday 18th April 2012

I have used colours for a background to make annotation more exciting. But the colours on the feedback for my pitch is dark, so it doesn't allow the writing to stand out. I have picked a few of my main memories and now i'm going to work on using different media and how I can start blending my memories together.

Friday 30th March 2012
